ELDER MAN HEADACHE

Neck Injury / Bone Alignment May Be Cause

All alone, curled up in the fetal position, in a room void of all light, trying to cope with the most intense throbbing pain in your head; this is what most migraine sufferers must deal with on an ongoing daily, weekly or monthly basis. If you have ever suffered from migraines, then you know just how debilitating they can be. Besides the intense pain they cause, migraines will interfere with every aspect of your life. Many don’t realize that 80% of chronic migraine sufferers will have a stroke at some point in their life.

Because there are different types of migraines, there are different migraine symptoms. Everyone who suffers from migraines will not have each symptom.(1)

But there may be one underlying cause.

Unfortunately, up until this point, there hasn’t been much help or relief from the condition. The current treatment includes pain medication, anti- depressants, and now botox injections. While these methods may reduce the suffering of the patient, they are only temporary and do not get to the real cause of the migraines. However, with new research from both the medical and chiropractic community, hope may finally be here for long time sufferers.

New Hope For Migraine Sufferers Advanced Imaging, Research, And Upper Cervical Chiropractic

Every day your brain is making about 500 cc’s of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that acts kind of like the blood for the brain and spinal cord. Once this fluid is made in the brain, it is transferred out of the skull, down the spinal cord, all the way down your spine, where it finally gets pumped back up to the brain. This fluid is very important as it delivers essential nutrients to your central nervous system.

Dr. Scott Rosa, upper cervical chiropractor from New York has been doing some amazing research with upright MRIs. He’s been able to show that when someone has a misalignment in the upper neck it is actually changing the flow of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) to, from and through the brain. CSF is the fluid that lubricates the brain and spinal cord.

The obstruction comes as the first few bones in your neck becomes misaligned and causes a backup of CSF and blood leading to increased pressure in the skull.. When this misalignment was corrected by an upper cervical procedure, the studies show that the pressure decreases by 28.6%, and the CSF flow becomes normal. These CSF and blood flow changes may be the underlying reason for long term degenerative changes in the brain.

The top two bones of the spine are shaped and formed completely different than any of the other spinal bones. The joints at the top of the spine are much flatter and this allows for the extensive amount of movement of the head. These joints unfortunately do not have the same boney locking mechanism that the other segments of the spine, leaving them vulnerable to misalignment. These joints are formed at different angles in all individuals, making it a very complicated area to treat.

While almost all chiropractors adjust the upper neck, there are a group of chiropractors who specialize in adjusting the atlas and are commonly known as “Upper Cervical Chiropractors.” When an upper cervical chiropractor adjusts your neck, there is no twisting, popping, or turning of the neck. They use advanced imaging to assure a specific adjustment that will hold in place. It is a very gentle and safe procedure that has changed many lives. Our doctors are trained in the Blair Upper Cervical Technique.
